Obituary of Avis L. Nickse

Avis L. (Vollrath) Nickse, 85, of Owego, NY and Eustis, FL passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014. She was born on October 26, 1928, in Westover, NY and graduated from Johnson City High School. She married the late Robert W. Nickse and they lived together in Owego before relocating to Florida where they enjoyed photography, camping and beautiful sunsets. Avis worked at GE in Westover and IBM in Owego and upon retirement she and Robert owned and operated Pic-Nick Ceramic Studio. Avis loved line dancing, was president of Country Club Manor's Women's Club and enjoyed traveling around the country visiting with her family. She also loved watching the birds and gators in the canal behind her home. Avis is survived by her ten children: Patti (William) Toulson, of Olympia, WA, Monica Colvin, of Owego, Florence (Gary) Beach, of Verona Beach, Rick Fiacco, of Owego, Carl Fiacco, of Los Angeles, Ned (LaDawn) Fiacco, of Idaho Falls, Mimi (Jim) Condon, of Leesburg, Fl., Steve (Jackie) Nickse, Rob Nickse, and Gail (Fred) Nickse-Griffin, all of Boston, Ma. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; her beloved brother and sister-in-law George and Joyce Vollrath of Johnson City; her nephew Edmund Vollrath; her niece Eleanor Dutko and their families, and special friends Jim Angel and Jim Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations in Avis' memory may be made to Samaritans Purse (.org) or charity of your choice. Memorial Services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Owego, NY. Family invites friends to call from 10 to 10:45 prior to the services.
