Whitmarsh, Richard

Richard E. Whitmarsh Sr.

Of Nichols

Richard E. Whitmarsh Sr., 54, of Nichols passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA to be with our Lord. Richard, known to many of us as Dick or Dickie, was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Thelma Whitmarsh.  Dick is survived by his first wife, Grace Routine of Candor and their four boys, Richard Whitmarsh Jr. of Candor, Billy (Missy) Whitmarsh of Lockwood, Timothy Whitmarsh of Willseyville, and Jason (Nicole) Whitmarsh of Tioga Center; his loving wife of 23 years, Rebecca Whitmarsh; their two daughters, Jessica Shipman of Nichols, and Jennifer Whitmarsh of Nichols.  Dick is survived by seven grandchildren, which will be shown pictures and told many wonderful stories about their grandpa when they are old enough to remember.  Dick is survived seven brothers and sisters, Juanita Bennett of Leesburg FL, Donna (Lenny) Schmidt of Owego, Bob (Emerice) Whitmarsh of Owego, Ralph Whitmarsh of Nichols, Pat (Bobbie) Whitmarsh of Nichols, Doug (Andrea) Whitmarsh of Charlottesville VA, and Bobbi Jo (Fred) Whitmarsh of Owego; along with many nieces and nephews. Dick was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and camping.  He also loved to bowl.  He enjoyed all this with his family until he was diagnosed a few years ago with COPD and Emphysema; he was also diagnosed about a month ago with Adenocarcinoma, which is a form of cancer that attached itself to his liver. They decided that Chemotherapy would be the best route to go, but the cancer spread so fast we went from having two months to a year with him, down to roughly two weeks.  Our Lord had better plans for him and took Dick from us just two days later.  We all love you and will miss you now and forever, rest in peace my loving husband, and to the best Dad and friend we could ever ask for. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.  Family invites friends to call from 10 to 10:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.  Memorial donations may be made in Dick’s name to Nichols Fire Department, 106 W. River Road, Nichols, NY 13812.
