Norma Ann Cummings Colburn

Of Owego

Norma Ann Cummings Colburn, 88, of Owego, passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Wilson Hospital.  Norma was predeceased by her parents, Cordis Ray and Velma Anna Jones Cummings; sister, Agnes Virginia Inman.  Norma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dennis; two sons, Cordis B. (Carole H.) Colburn of Arlington, VA; Dennis A. (Karen I.) Colburn of Downers Grove, IL; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one niece and two nephews. Norma was very active with supporting her family, friends and community. Norma and Dennis enjoyed traveling the United States, seeing every state but Alaska.  Norma was an active member of Owego United Methodist Church, and enjoyed singing in the choir.  She enjoyed volunteering in the community and worked with many organizations such as the Red Cross Blood Bank, meals on wheels and working as a polling clerk for elections. She enjoyed her sewing and was a member of the quilting circle.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11:00 AM at United Methodist Church of Owego, 261 Main Street, Owego with Rev. Alan Jagger officiating. Family invites friends to call on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 5 to 7 PM at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Owego and from 10 to 11 AM prior to the funeral services at Owego UMC. Memorial donations may be made in Norma’s name to the United Methodist Church of Owego, 261 Main Street, Owego, NY 13827.

Message: My first pleasant experience on Degroat Road was when Norma invited all the ladies on our road to a tea party at her house to meet the new neigbor, me. She has always been a warm, friendly, caring presence in our communtiy and I am sure she will be missed by many. many people.
My heart goes our to Denny for his loss.

Message: Floyd and I are so sorry to have missed the calling hours for Norma. Our sympathy goes out to Dennis and to her family. She was a lovely person and will be missed. Norma always took the time to stop and say something nice. Such a lovely lady!
